How Did These Hobbies Get Here?

Sep 15, 2024

Want to know who is in my inner circle bringing me peace?

My feathered ladies - Korra, Fiona, Sparkles, Bowser, Rose, Zelda, Chansey, Daisy and Nuggs (named by the kids).

During a quick headshot photo session in our back meadow, my partner had to battle my distractions as I cuddled chickens, picked flowers and checked on my garden.

It wasn't until he showed me the photos that I realized that I have HOBBIES. Surprised I have activities that I now enjoy, external and internal alignment. Things that don't involve people pleasing tendencies and serving others. Energy re-charge, natural space.

It took a long journey to get here. One filled with identity loss from work and parenting demands. Transformational lessons of my own behavior that caused my burnout including productivity guilt, work validation, and stress addiction.

Unfortunately my story is all too common. According to Fortune magazine, 82% of employees are at risk of burnout in 2024. This is why supporting your workforce through training and development on how to embrace this ever-changing world instead of battling it is crucial. Referring them to the EAP for mental health does not decrease the chronic stress happening at work - it's a band-aid with no solution. EAP is a great resource, but the root cause problems are still present.

There are not enough chickens in the world to bring you peace when you go back to the grind day in, day out. Let's begin the change focusing on root cause problems. Building agile teams through the Workforce Energy Management programs and providing practical tools for changing times.

It starts with you. Your focus, your support to the workforce. Change can be beautiful and transformational as you see in the picture. A 'smiler' to a genuine smile. It starts with one step in the right direction.
